Spiced Apple Crisp

APPLE MIXTURE INGREDIENTS

  • 6 large apples of your flavor choosing, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8-1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • Juice from 2 large lemons
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

CRISP INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (par melted)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray an 8”x8” baking dish with non stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix the apples with the remainder of the apple ingredients and pour into the prepared baking dish. It’ll be a decent mound, but will shrink as the apples cook.
  3. Add all of the crisp ingredients to a large bowl and combine with your hands. By using your hands, you’ll be able to fully incorporate the ingredients together while still maintaining a crumb texture. Do not overmix to the point where it’s a solid mass.
  4. Add the crumb mixture onto the top of the apples and make sure it’s even distributed.
  5. Bake for 40-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the juices are bubbling.
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes and enjoy!

Note: I prefer to store the apple crisp in the fridge, but it may be left out overnight as long as it’s covered. It should last up to 5 days.
